Storm had five stages. STAGE #1: 15 sec. of large splotches of rain. STAGE #2: 150 seconds of lull with no precipitation. STAGE #3: 150 seconds of intense precipitation with both rain and grain-size and pea-size hail. STAGE #4: 150 seconds of moderate rain. STAGE #5: 300 seconds of tapering off rain. NOTE: The precipitation timing suggests that the rain in the leading edge of the storm took longer to fall to the ground. And it appears to have hit the ground at the same time as the rain that was behind it in the cloud. The result was a doubling of the rate of precipitation for the same length of time as the length of the lull stage. The station statistics and digital photographs of the precipitation look like a double-decker storm structure. In digital flash photographs the hail looks white and the rain looks gray. The rain drops and hail stones are all perfectly spherical in the images. The hail stones hardly dented the hail pad. |
