I did not observe the hail coming down but saw it on the ground. I do not quite know when if fell but it would have melted pretty fast so it must have been within a few minutes. I measured the average distance apart by laying a 12-inch ruler down at random and counting the number of hail stones that touched the ruler -- 8 in 12 inches. My first impression was that the hail was closer together than this, but I think this is a valid method of measuring, so perhaps looks can be deceiving. |
