Station Number: NC-WK-185
Station Name: Morrisville 1.5 SSW
Report Date: 4/21/2018
Submitted: 4/21/2018 5:34 AM
Scale Bar: Mildly Dry
Description:
All of the earthworms seen in isolated dense populations on the sidewalk last week were dry and shriveled. At commercial developments in all four corners of the intersection of SR 1613 & SR 3014 I saw migratory waterfowl last week. I weighed and measured 20 of the closest dry pine cones Wednesday that were average 0.6 ounces (range 0.2 to 1.0 ounce) and 3 to 5 inches long. Some curbs and grates are affected by heaps and piles of the small dry pine pollen husks (1/8 inch diameter, 1 to 2 inches long). Very Little standing water seen at the end of the week except puddles 1.5 inch deep remained Friday at the sharp bend in the creek that was flooded with water more than 20 inches above ground level during the weekend storm more than 5 days ago. Society and public health: a group of young persons in bathing suits was observed swimming in the creek Sunday a few hours before the flood. The dog and I heard a large/heavy snake slithering away in the dry leaves and only saw the dark colored thick posterior section as it quickly moved deeper into the woods. I saw swarms of gnats by the creek and one or two small butterflies/moths mosquitoes and bees in the wildflowers and surrounding grassy areas.
