Description:
The harvest is progressing nicely since the rain events subsided. The heavy dews slowed the morning starts but crops are coming out quickly now. The heavy dews have kept fire risk very low and let us burn some wood piles. Ponds and rivers are full. Springs are running well, maybe even a little more than average volume. Color change looks to be less. Trees turning green to brown, Hard maples that normally are brilliant red are dull red at best. Bullfrogs are still hanging in there, enjoying the extended warmer weather. Haven't had to have heat or air conditioning for most of month, even with the few cool nights in the low 40's. Grass has had excellent fall growth. Cattle are enjoying the new grass and continue to gain well with the great weather we are having. Johnsongrass continues to grow. Johnsongrass sure made a big comeback this year. No excuses for outdoor work. construction and dirt work on time and should be ahead of schedule for many projects. Tomatoes are still setting fruit even with the shorter daylengths. My popcorn is ready to pick. Hand shelled some and enjoyed a big bowl full watching the Dodgers put the cubbies back in place!
Happy 500th Reformation everybody.
