This month's precipitation has been above normal, but only by a quarter of an inch, but there are still four days left in the month. This month also is only the third month of the water year to be above normal. As a result we are still six inches below normal for the year.
Up until this month lawns were drying out, water levels in lakes, streams and ephemeral ponds were dry. This month's precipitation has helped those conditions to improve in particularly suburban lawns. However, the soils are not saturated, and any accumulation of runoff in my rain garden readily percolates into the ground. In many cases, some lakes and ponds have lower than normal levels. Visually, it appears agricultural crops seem to be doing well.
