Condition Monitoring Report
Station Number: VT-CH-62
Station Name: Hinesburg 0.9 N
Report Date: 3/31/2025
Submitted: 3/31/2025 10:14 AM
Scale Bar: Near Normal
Description:
I'm finally able to say honestly that it's near normal out there. We received 1.5" of SWE (rain and snow) in the past three days, and that has brought us up to slightly above the climatological norm (7.46" vs. 7.13"). And there's more rain coming. Also fortunately, the ground thawed a few weeks ago, so this is able to soak in because it's not coming all at once.
For now, the forest floor is saturated, so I'm not worried about fire in the short term. We don't have any windy, dry warm weather in the forecast, so we should be out of the woods (so to speak) for a while.
All of this speaks well for public water supplies (recharging ground water after a dry winter), agriculture (moist ground early, before there would be plowing and bogged-down tractors) and plants. Forest vegetation remains dormant, as would be expected for the season.
