So it’s been somewhat a wet March, precip up a bit but it does not make up for the dry Jan and Feb. as well as going back to Oct, 2024. Our water year is down a lot. We are a town of all on wells so a lack of rainfall over time could affect the water table below us and thus our wells. Our two notable streams in town, both called a river but as we are the headwaters location of them, they are only brooks. Anyhow, both are flowing but in reduced normal capacity.
Animal life appears to be normal, seeing lots of birds and the usual four legged creatures.
However our trees are still taking a beating both from a lack of sufficient rainfall and various invasive insects that are killing our trees over the past several years. Both the surrounding towns themselves and the power companies are trimming and cutting along roads and power service routes. Our local nature reserve has closed many days to deal with dead or dying trees and limbs which cause safety concerns to users of the facility.
Snowfall was again down this year at about half its normal. I believe I only logged one day I measured ice accumulation.
and over the last couple months we have fluctuated between mildly and moderately dry.
