The soil surface appears to be drier than normal. The ground is frozen to a depth of 3 inches; but pipe probe easily penetrated the frozen soil due to the relatively low moisture content near the surface. The pond level appears to be below normal. Stream flow appears to be below normal with a little ice in the ditches. Both the Ohio and Licking River stages are below normal. Only 1/4" of rain and snow melt equivalent during the past 3 weeks. The lawns are frozen; but appear to be unusually brown due to the frozen conditions and the relatively dry conditions during the past 3 weeks. Despite the cold weather, the pine trees are showing a little stress due to this unusually dry period during mid winter.
