Condition Monitoring Report
Station Number: WA-SJ-28
Station Name: Lopez Island 3.9 NNE
Report Date: 4/21/2018
Submitted: 4/21/2018 6:29 AM
Scale Bar: Mildly Wet
Description:
The first half of April was notably wetter than normal, which re-saturated/inundated many hollows and depressions across the landscapes. Cool first half of April; kept wood stove burning from April 1-20th, and finally let it burn out yesterday. My gauge location is in a bit of a cold pocket, and vegetation sprouting and leaf-out is running about 10 days to 21+ days behind typical schedule (depending on the plant species). One example is that big-leaf maple has only just broken bud here (no blooming yet), where a half-mile in either direction of house, the maples are leafing out and blooming. Even had some very light, patchy frost on April 19th. Have cut the lawn once so far this spring; grass growth has been slow. Warmer temps are forecasted this coming week, which may really jump-start plant growth.
