Station Name: Norwalk 1.2 E
Report Date: 4/21/2018

Scale Bar: Near Normal
Description:
On 4/14 area fields planted with winter wheat and cover crops were lush and green, and we saw gulls eagerly feeding on one freshly plowed field. Most area fields have not been plowed. We got just over 1.5 in. of rain this week, along with some snow. On 4/16 I saw a little water standing in fields as I drove South from Norwalk to N. Fairfield, but nothing major. By 4/19 there were tiny leaves on the crabapple at last, and the maple was redder with its tiny leaves. The Spring Beauty is still a cluster of pink blooms, and the lungwort, too, seems unbothered by the snow and cold. On 4/21 my husband mowed the lawn for the first time, and I dug out some grass and dandelions from under the crabapple tree. Hosta are poking through the soil now. I am seeing more purple finches, yellow finches and mourning doves at the bird feeder, but haven’t seen any woodpeckers at the suet balls lately. We have a lot of robins in the area.
