Biodiversity: on 1/25 I collected overnight microbe samples with petri dishes affixed on ceiling vent registers by the northwest and southeast facing walls & windows. 5 days after closing the petri dishes and storing on a wire rack at ambient room air/light conditions, microbial colonies within both dishes were visible without magnification. 9 colonies of 3 apparently different species were visible from the NW sample and only 2 colonies of apparently different species on the SE sample. A cylindrical sticky bug trap suspended in the middle of the residence since August did not capture any bugs except one cobweb strand. A cylindrical sticky bug trap suspended near the southeast window during that time collected 6 tiny, winged insects of 3 different appearances (life stage or species). The geospatial orientation of the residence leads to obviously different exposures to sunlight and wind between front and back yard. Members of the household agree that evapotranspiration rates are different in front and back yards and speculatively contribute to these observed differences in biodiversity. Energy: the electric meter is 403 kWh higher today than December 30.
