Condition Monitoring Report
Station Number: NJ-MS-59
Station Name: Madison 0.8 WSW
Report Date: 10/1/2022
Submitted: 10/01/2022 10:43 AM
Scale Bar: Mildly Dry
Description:
Thus far for my “Watershed,” that resides in the “Upper Passaic River” Watershed, that covers from 1.5 miles to the NW to about 1.5 miles to the SE and is about 1 mile in width and in the general shape of a diamond;

There were three days of measurable precipitation and one day with trace precipitation for a total of 0.94” the past seven days [Sun-Sat]. Rivers and streams nearby continue to be low for the year. The Madison Golf Course, adjacent this station, is operating normally. There was no “observable” action on my thistle feeder this week by Gold Finch. The measurement of seeds Saturday morning in my feeder, was still 2-1/4”. The ground around this station is continuing to moisten up after .94” more rain this week and temperatures continue at or slightly below normal [for lows] again this week. The grass and ‘weeds’ continue to recover requiring another cut immediatly. The Japanese Maple continues to shed browned out leaves, but again less this week. The Maple Trees are looking healthy. No fall color has been noticed on or immediately adjacent this station. However; in other areas of town and adjacent neighborhoods, Sugar Maples have begun to turn. Lantern Flys while more numerous this year, continue to diminish rapidly. Indeed no more have been observed alive the past week. Hummingbirds seem to have moved on and away and so I packed away my feeder for the year. I want to correct the record; the Crepe Myrtle adjacent this station, is indeed still holding on to flowers, perhaps even 10% of the tree, surprisingly so.

Over the past 31 days; this station has captured and reported 11 days of precipitation for a total of 4.05 inches.
There have been 106 days of precipitation the first 273 days of CY2022 [1/1/2022 to 10/1/2022] for a total of 33.59” of precipitation compared to, 99 “Precipitation Days” and a total of 44.54” the same Year To Date [YTD] in CY2021. So far, compared to last year; we have received 10.95” LESS precipitation this year than a year ago maintaining a relative “below normal” drought like precipitation level. Some other totals from previous years, for comparison, are; YTD2020-37.27”, YTD2019-45.21”, YTD2018-52.35”, YTD2017-34.12”, YTD2016-34.58”, YTD2015-29.92,” YTD2014-39.88”, and YTD2013-35.57”. The running ten year average reported precipitation for this station is: 38.70 inches, holding this station at a deficit of 5.11” from the 10 year average. Please be a Good neighbor; watch for areas of stagnant water where mosquitoes may breed. Even a beverage cap or a corrugated downspout full of water can breed these pests. Thank you. Welcome to the Fall Season. Bring on the fall decore. Have a beautiful week. God bless you and your family and God bless America!
